Despite hearing “Children need your presence more than they need your presents!” or “Spend twice as much time and half as much money” Thanksgiving kicks off the official “shop ’til you drop” marathon. We spend too much and over schedule and often drive ourselves half nuts in search of the perfect gift.
But do we ever stop and think about why we’re doing all of that? And whether or not it makes sense?
Obviously we want to spend time with people we love and hope to find just the right gift to make their days even better… but do we get so frazzled that what we end up sharing stress instead of cheer?
When you think back on your own growing up years what are the happy memories made of? Are they really tied to specific gifts? Or is the excitement, laughter and shared experiences that warm your heart?
